The Ringers

An introduction from Tower Captain, Margaret Lee
Hello. I have been ringing Tower Bells for many years with a couple of breaks. I came to bell ringing, like many people before me, from a Church choir and have been ringing here at St Mary’s since 1993 and as Tower Captain since 2004.
We are a good team of enthusiast ringers from all walks of life who enjoy the art of change ringing.
We ring for Sunday morning service and practise every Monday evening, except for Bank Holidays. Other occasions have been: St Georges Day, Royal events, The Battle of Trafalgar and Weddings, The Town Carol service, Light up a Life service, Heritage Open Days, Quayside Festival and Bridgwater Carnival Day.  We also have a thriving social group, Friends of St Mary's, who ring for pleasure on a Tuesday afternoon - for a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit!
On the social side we have an annual Christmas Dinner and other activities such as cycle rides, visiting the theatre, gardens parties, taking part in quiz evenings.
We open the tower several times throughout the year and on Carnival Day. Visitors and locals climb the stairs in the footsteps of the Duke of Monmouth to see the views of Sedgemoor, on these days we demonstrate the art of bell ringing.
Everyone is welcome to come and meet us, to see what we do, how we do it and hopefully see that Bellringing is fun and a very social activity.
If you would like to join us we meet on Monday at 7.00 pm. I look forward to meeting you.
